Joey Pizzi is an award-winning choreographer with an extensive background creating dance for stage and screen, working alongside many of the top performers of our time. Currently Joey is attached as co-choreographer for the upcoming Disney feature film Mary Poppins Returns starring Emily Blunt and Lin-Manuel Miranda (dir. Rob Marshall). On Broadway, Joey choreographed the multi-Tony Award winning Vaudeville-era play The Nance (dir. Jack O’Brien) starring Nathan Lane, also broadcast as a PBS Great Performance. He received Astaire Award nominations for his work choreographing the films Burlesque starring Christina Aguilera, Cher, and Julianne Hough (dir. Steven Antin) and Lucky Stiff starring Jason Alexander (dir. Christopher Ashley). Choreography for selected feature films and television includes The Secret Life of Walter Mitty (dir. Ben Stiller), It’s Complicated (dir. Nancy Meyers), The Marc Pease Experience (dir. Todd Louiso), and the fantasy musical sequence for the 100th episode of Gossip Girl. Joey worked with the world famous Radio City Rockettes, choreographing their appearance on ABC-TV’s “Broadway Under The Stars”. Regional and commercial work includes choreography for PaperMill Playhouse’s Of Thee I Sing (dir. Tina Landau), La Mama’s Jukebox Jackie and Broadway 68 (dir. Scott Wittman), NYTW’s The Most Fabulous Story Ever Told (dir. Christopher Ashley), Damn Yankees (Theater des Westens, Berlin) and Walt Disney World’s latest international commercial “The Musical” (dir. Steven Antin). Other upcoming projects include choreographing the world premiere of the new musical Hood written and directed by Douglas Carter Beane.
Joey’s considerable experience in film also includes working as an associate choreographer for the features Into The Woods (dir. Rob Marshall), Nine (dir. Rob Marshall), Dreamgirls (dir. Bill Condon), Hairspray (dir. Adam Shankman) and Chicago (dir. Rob Marshall) where he has collaborated on the creation of some of the most iconic dance sequences in modern movie-musicals.
