Cherice Barton is thrilled to have been invited to create a new work for Aspen Santa Fe Ballet with an official 2017 premiere in Los Angeles at the Valley Performing Arts Center as a part of their exciting new artist-in-residence collaboration. As a choreographer and creative consultant, Ms. Barton has a unique eye for transforming dance into inspired, emotional and visually stunning work for all mediums,from stage to screen. Following a recent move from NY to Los Angeles, Cherice choreographed Katy Perryís critically acclaimed performance for the 57th Grammy Awards. She had previously joined the creative team of America’s Got Talent as Choreography Associate. In addition she was brought in by George Lucas to choreograph Disneyís Strange Magic for Lucas Filmanimation/ILM. She was the Resident Choreographer and Casting Associate for Franco Dragone’s cirque aquatic spectacle, Le Reve, at the Wynn Resort in Las Vegas, choreographed the Off-Broadway production, Wearing Lorcaís Bowtie, at the Duke on 42nd Street, and is proud to have been on the original creative team as the Assistant and Resident Choreographer of the epic Broadway show, Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark, working alongside such visionaries as Daniel Ezralow, Julie Taymor, Bono and The Edge.
An extensive background in dance and the conception and production of live events combined with a recent immersion into television, film and animation has led Ms. Barton to collaborate on numerous notable projects including productions by American Ballet Theater, Dance Camera West, Dragone Entertainment Group and Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival. She has joined forces with numerous prestigious artists and innovators such as George Lucas, Crystal Pite, Mia Michaels, Brian Burke, Vincent Paterson and most recently, her sister, Charissa Barton. She is frequently asked to choreograph, lecture and conduct master classes for such distinguished institutions as The Juilliard School, NYU Tisch, Pace, Marymount Manhattan College, LMU, and UCSB. Most recently the Barton sisters have proudly launched their own production company, Barton Movement, an educational platform for emerging professional dancers called Axis Connect. Led by its founders, Charissa and Cherice Barton, Axis Connect bridges the gap between the institution and professional dance industry by providing the experience, connections, skills and exposure necessary for career success.
Cherice Barton’s performance career has spanned 20 years in over 30 countries across six continents. She devotes her heart to her beautiful daughters, beloved husband and the craziest but most inspiring parents and siblings a girl could ask for.
